About

Millions of Americans are slowly losing vision every day due to retinal degenerative diseases, a group of genetic blinding diseases including retinitis pigmentosa, Usher syndrome, macular degeneration, and many others. They are our friends, relatives, neighbors and colleagues.

The cost of this vision loss is extraordinary; according to the most recent National Eye Institute study, the nation spends over $67 billion annually due to the direct and indirect costs of vision loss, which is more than 100 times the annual budget of the National Eye Institute at the National Institutes of Health.

Recent, groundbreaking successes in vision research – including the restoration of vision in human trials employing gene therapies and biotechnology prosthetics – give us hope that we can eradicate blinding diseases and their great costs. The sole limiting factor in delivering these treatments to the people who need them is the availability of research funding.

Hope For Vision provides the tools necessary for people like you to come together to share our common interest in this cause and to work together to raise funds for this critical research. HFV is comprised of thousands of dedicated volunteers and vision advocates in Communities of Hope across the country, who raise funds through special events and other activities.  Guided by its Board of Visionary Scientists, HFV then distributes over 90 percent of funds raised directly to researchers at leading medical institutions nationwide.  Since 2005, HFV Communities of Hope have hosted over 30 events raising millions for sight-saving research.

We hope you will join us in our mission to fund these desperately needed treatments and cures, and help deliver our Hope for Vision to all who need it.  There are many ways you can get involved:
